The short version
  • Settings → Delete account permanently deletes your account and everything you set up, straight away. There’s no grace period and no undo.
  • Disconnecting Instagram pauses its automations but doesn’t delete them. Reconnect the same account and they carry on.
  • Ask Instagram to delete your data and we erase that Instagram account’s data straight away. Your DMChat account stays until you delete it.
  • Or email support@dmchat.io and we’ll delete it for you within 30 days.

1.Delete everything yourself

Sign in, open Settings, and choose Delete account. This deletes your DMChat account, together with your connected Instagram accounts, access tokens, automations, contacts, leads, automation history and settings, straight away and for good. There’s no grace period and no undo: once it’s deleted, nobody can restore it, including us. If you’re on a paid plan, it’s cancelled at the same moment, so you won’t be charged again.

A few records stay for a set time: raw events from Instagram expire on their own, and security logs are kept because our security needs them. How long each one is kept is listed in the Privacy Policy.

2.Disconnecting Instagram

You can disconnect an Instagram account on the Integrations page, or remove DMChat in Instagram: Settings and activity → Website permissions → Apps and websites. If you remove it in Instagram, Instagram tells us. Either way, we mark that Instagram account as disconnected. From then on we can’t read its comments or send DMs from it, and every automation on it stops at once.

Disconnecting doesn’t delete anything. Your automations, contacts and leads stay as they are, and replies or follow-ups that were waiting to go out are cancelled. Connect the same Instagram account again and its automations start working again by themselves, just as you left them. The one exception: if an account was disconnected because your plan changed, its automations are switched off, so turn them back on after you reconnect.

To erase your data, delete your account as above, ask Instagram to delete it (next section), or email us.

3.Asking Instagram to delete your data

If you ask Instagram to delete the data DMChat holds on you, Instagram sends us the request and we act on it straight away. We erase that Instagram account’s data for good: its access token, automations, contacts, leads, Comment Guard history, automation history and the raw events we received from it. The Instagram account is disconnected, and nothing can be restored.

Your DMChat account itself stays, with your sign-in, plan and billing records, so you can connect an Instagram account again later. To remove all of that too, use Delete account above. Instagram shows you a confirmation code; enter it on this page, in the link Instagram gives you, to see that the request was carried out.

4.Ask us to delete it

Can’t sign in, or want us to do it? Email support@dmchat.io from the email on your account and include your Instagram username. If you have a confirmation code from Instagram, include that too. We confirm by email when it’s done, within 30 days.

5.What gets deleted

  • Your DMChat account and profile
  • Every connected Instagram account and its access token
  • Automations, replies, templates and settings
  • Automation history and analytics
  • Contacts, lead form answers and brand deal records
  • Comment Guard history
  • Your paid plan, which is cancelled so you’re not charged again
